We’re All SLO Happy

Just arrived in San Luis Obispo, CA.

For those of you who are not familiar with SLO (as the locals call it),  just imagine what heaven must be like.

A few of the places I’ve lived and loved:

Utah – panoramic views of the mountains from downtown SLC and awesome hiking

L.A. – fresh local produce, great beaches, weather can’t be beat

San Francisco –  bustling town, breath-taking vistas, vineyards just outside the city

San Luis Obispo – all of the above

There’s always a bitter-sweetness when relocating to a new home.  There are people that you will miss and don’t want to leave behind. Afterall, wherever you live it’s the people–the relationships that you build, that make a place home.  So, although it’s an exciting new adventure on one hand, my heart is heavy having to leave my friends.

I did take my two dogs along though.  Don’t see how I could ever leave without them.  Although, there were times when I think they would have preferred it; neither of them being fond of road trips.  And after a few bouts of projectile vomiting and diahrea I think my husband would have preferred it too.

But we all made if safe and sound.  Stella (my 12 year old Akita) and Stanley (my 7 year old Border Terrier) were very happy to reach terra firma.  I don’t know if I could convince either of them to move again even if I wanted to.   They love the grassy back yard, they love the weather, and I haven’t taken them to the beach yet, but I will.  As soon as I’m able to get them back into the car!

The beaches here are dog friendly.  In fact, the whole county of San Luis Obispo seems very open to dogs.  There are certain times they are allowed on beaches and hiking trails either leashed or under voice command.  And you see them walking all over town.  I love it!   With all that and off-leash dog parks too, I bet having a really reliable recall has gotta be a priority for most dog owners.   I can’t wait to help them learn how ; )
